Ammonia Process Engineer

Iowa Fertilizer Company (IFCo) is looking for an Ammonia Process Engineer to join our Operations team in Wever, Iowa. This individual will be responsible for evaluating processes and configuring process production systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the ammonia production process.

At a minimum, tasks will include:
• Evaluate and improve on processes in production systems
• Maintain reliable and safe process systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, cost and changeovers
• Develop innovative solutions
• Improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards
• Develop and implement systems that optimize all phases of the production process
• Provide suggestions during incident investigations
• Advise on corrective actions
• Work with all areas of operation to develop a cost-effective and working production process
• Ensure that projects are completed on time
• Ensure that financial budgets are followed
• Research new process technologies within our production facilities
• Prepare reports, flow diagrams and charts
• Assume responsibility for risk assessment, including hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, for the health and safety of both company staff and the wider community
• Ensuring the process works at the optimum level, to the right rate and quality of output, and safety of the plant
• Making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved
• Assumes responsibility of ongoing performance of processes and process plant
• Ensuring that all aspects of operations and process meet specified regulations
• Assess the availability of raw materials and the safety and environmental impact of the plant
• Follow company safety and health guidelines and other company policies.
• Ability to climb straight ladders.
• Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physical requirements – bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50lbs.
• Confined space entry may be required.
• Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
• Industrial chemical plant environment.
• Noise levels may require hearing protection.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to gather and evaluate complex information.
• Ability to use personal computer software for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• SAP experience a plus.
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in a field of engineering such as chemical, industrial or manufacturing required.

Experience and Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years, experience supporting environmental compliance in the chemical industry or other industrial manufacturing, or analytical laboratory or environmental consulting.
• Ammonia or fertilizer manufacturing experience preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast pace, high stress environment.
• Provide attention to detail and ability to produce results.
• Ability to interact with team members and meet strict deadlines.
• Ability to read and produce technical reports and diagrams of the manufacturing process.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to gather and evaluate complex information.
• Ability to use personal computer software for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
