Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer

OCI Nitrogen North America is looking for an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to join our Maintenance team. The I&C Engineer is responsible for developing, installing, managing, and maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes. The primary objective of this role is to ensure that these systems and processes are operating effectively, efficiently, and safely, while simultaneously ensuring all control systems adhere to Industry Best Practices. This individual ensures safety instrumented systems and critical controls are compliant with PSM.

What you will do as an I&C Engineer:

  • Effectively test, maintain, and modify existing systems as required.
  • Provide ongoing technical support through activities such as equipment design and specification, machinery trouble shooting and equipment inspections.
  • Technical advice for job plans, walkdowns and plan improvements.
  • Assist in diagnosing faults and emergent work.
  • Provide failure history and cost for reliability analysis.
  • Analyze data and present findings in written/electronic reports. Prepare regular project and monthly reports presenting the results of work completed and work in progress.
  • Ensure methodological stage gated project delivery process for technical/stakeholder reviews & approvals.
  • Write and develop effective preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Review and maintain equipment fabrication and repair specifications for project and maintenance requirements. When needed develop new specifications.
  • Provide meaningful and accurate guidance for IC&E technicians and operations. Ongoing training and technology transfer to crafts persons. Assist in formal and informal training of technicians.
  • Evaluate and recommend effective reliability improvements.
  • Track and optimize DCS health and tuning for reliability – critical valve response time.
  • Identify and recommend spare part strategy/assess system risks.
  • Ensure that plant SIF’s are accurate and held to a proper PM program.
  • Implement Management of Change (MOC).
  • P&ID and engineering documentation creation, control, and update.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Experience and Skills

  • 5+ years’ engineering experience supporting environmental compliance in a chemical industry or refining environment. Fertilizer manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Capital projects and expenditures experience.
  • Experience with PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controllers).
  • Experience with graphics programming (HMI), software programming, and ladder logic programming.
  • Analyzer Calibrations, Gas, ammonia or any other oil/gas and chemicals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
  • Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights more than 100 feet.
  • Confined space entry may be required.
  • Wearing hearing protection within high level noise areas as required.
