Maintenance Technician

Iowa Fertilizer Company (IFCo) is looking for a Maintenance Technician to be responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
At a minimum, tasks will include:
• Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
• Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
• Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
• Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
• Inspect drives, motors and belts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery, check fluid levels, and replace filters.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
• Experience with and troubleshooting of critical instrumentation on Real-time operation of a PSM site.
• Safety driven mentality with dedication to process safety systems integrity and availability.
• Analytical equipment expertise in troubleshooting and calibration of PH, conductivity, density and ammonia equipment.
• Follow company safety and health guidelines and other company policies.
• Adhere to LOTO and MOC procedures.
• See the benchmark matrices for requirements for each craft, General Service Mechanic, Millwright, Pipefitter and Plant Services.
• Follow company safety and health guidelines and other company policies.
• Ability to climb straight ladders.
• Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physical requirements – bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50lbs.
• Confined space entry may be required.
• Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
• Industrial chemical plant environment.
• Noise levels may require hearing protection.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to gather and evaluate complex information.
• Ability to use personal computer software for word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• SAP experience a plus.
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• High School Diploma or GED, along with a 4 year apprenticeship, and/or relevant work experience.

Experience and Qualifications
• 5 years practical experience in supporting environmental compliance in the chemical industry or other industrial manufacturing, or analytical laboratory or environmental consulting.
• Fertilizer manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of ISO & AGMA lubrication codes a plus
• Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Pumps, Bearings, Chains and Belting, Conveying Systems, Valves, Basic Blueprint Reading and Mechanical Troubleshooting
• Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
• Understanding and experience working with all types of production plant systems such as pumps, motors, flow meters, filters, and conveyor systems.
• Industrial maintenance experience.
• Experience working with lathes, milling machines, shaper/grinders
• Mechanical and electrical knowledge
• Good trouble shooting skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter and hard working
• Ability to operate a fork truck.
• SAP experience a plus
• Advanced understanding and hands on experience of process analytical equipment (troubleshooting, calibration, sample switching logic, calibration gas replacement procedures, and documentations)
