Job Summary:

The Operational Buyer will join our OCI Nitrogen Procurement Team in Wever, Iowa. This individual will work on-site in a fast-paced work environment. He/She will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to performing bid events, processing purchase orders, and coordinating with suppliers to meet the sites needs while minimizing cost. While also identifying and implementing best practices in all procurement processes and building supportive internal and external relationships.

Job Responsibilities:

At a minimum, tasks will include: 

Strategic Accountabilities

  • Support compliance to the procurement process at the site and increases involvement of procurement in alignment with the business.
  • Facilitate continuous engagement with the stakeholder community in the procurement process and category management.
  • Participate in projects with other OCI personnel to evaluate possible synergies and cost saving projects.
  • Ensure on-going efficiencies of the procurement functions by supporting the progress being made regarding the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Operational Accountabilities

  • Work with requestors to understand requirements, specifications, and timing; conducting competitive bidding process, including soliciting RFIs/RFPs and robust bid analysis & recommendations.
  • Participate as a team member actively pursuing and implementing cost reduction ideas and opportunities.
  • Monitor and expedite orders, resolve supply-related issues, and collaborate with internal teams to align purchasing activities and production schedules.
  • Secure and analyze quotations; negotiate prices and terms with suppliers; and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Monitor and communicate performance of suppliers.
  • Participate in early planning for turnarounds and key projects.
  • Ensure use of framework agreements and preferred supplier agreements.
  • Research invoices that were rejected by Accounts Payable and assist with getting them processed.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of integrity and honesty in dealing with both inside and outside contacts.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a related field or at least 4 years’ relevant experience
  • Procurement certification preferred (APICS, etc.)
  • Experience with ERP systems required, preferably SAP (S4 Hana)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint) required.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to change direction and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning and negotiation skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 25lbs
  • Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
  • Industrial chemical plant environment
  • Noise levels may require hearing protection.
